Assessment of Roadside Slope Hazards and Infrastructure Vulnerability Along Narayanghat-Mugling Highway for Maintenance Prioritization
Year: 2024/25
Status: Ongoing
In one of our ongoing projects, GEOINFRA has collaborated with MOPIT to conduct a comprehensive slope vulnerability assessment along the Narayanghat-Mugling Road Section, a crucial link between Kathmandu and India. The project aimed to address challenges posed by climate change-induced disasters, mapping infrastructure risks and devising strategies for effective disaster management. As part of the project, a comprehensive inventory database of all roadside slopes along the Narayanghat-Mugling Road Section will be established. Additionally, a historical hazard information database containing failure types, scales, causes, and mitigation strategies will be prepared, and landslide susceptibility mapping will be established. Moreover, models based on historical risks and monitoring data validated by the susceptibility mapping will be produced to evaluate the manual slope condition rating system according to the degree of risk associated with each road slope. This project is significant to study the Road Slope Vulnerability along the study area and assess its need for the National Highway Road Slope Disaster Management Plan.
