Detail Study for Seepage Control Through the Rankbang Lake, Kotgaun, Rolpa
Project: Detail Study for Seepage Control Through the Rankbang Lake, Kotgaun, Rolpa
Client: Department of Water Resources and Irrigation
Year: 2025
Status: Completed
The study aimed to assess the seepage phenomenon from Rankbang Lake and develop technically sound and practical solutions for its control. The key tasks completed by GEOINFRA included:
- Literature review and analysis of the lake’s physical, geological, and hydrological settings.
- Detailed field reconnaissance and visual inspection of seepage zones and surrounding slopes.
- Execution of Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) survey to identify subsurface seepage paths and weak zones.
- Collection and analysis of soil data and previous investigations conducted in the area.
- Evaluation of surface and sub-surface hydrology and lake storage dynamics.
- Identification of probable seepage mechanisms (e.g., karstic or fractured rock systems).
- Preparation of mitigation options for seepage control including curtain grouting, clay blanketing, and cut-off trench designs.
- Formulation of short- and long-term recommendations to ensure the sustainability of the lake for local irrigation and ecological services.
